Funeral details have been announced for a York rugby stalwart killed in a crash.

As The Press reported, 74-year-old Brian McClure died on Tuesday, February 18, following a collision in Castleford.

West Yorkshire Police said that Brian was a pedestrian in the incident. The force said a man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident.

First taking up his post as honorary club secretary at York RUFC in 1987, Brian was said to be one of the club's "staunchest, most loyal and well-loved personalities".

Now, the club has publicised the details of his funeral - which will take place on March 4.

"The funeral of our dearly beloved friend and supporter Brian McClure will take place at 12.30am on Tuesday, March 4 at Clifton Parish Church where we will come together for a celebration of life service," a York RUFC spokesperson said.

The day will then continue at 2pm at York Sports Club in Shipton Road, York.

The spokesperson added: "Those intending to attend the service should note that there is no parking available at the church and are therefore advised to park at the sports club and walk down to the church."

Donations at the funeral will be taken in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. York RUFC said the family requested for no flowers to be brought.
